Emily Personality Portrait -- July 2011

(sold)
"Emily"

A commission piece! This was made for a friend for her birthday from her mother. She loves to play the ukulele, has a video of her spinning slow motion in a skirt, and she is wearing her favourite outfit (minus, perhaps, the hat. I found out that everyone who has a personality portrait must be wearing a hat, unless they are bald. The hair cannot be hair-like all the way to the top, unfortunately!)
I had lots of fun with this piece, and I experimented with using yarn as a fill-in, rather than wire. The skirt and the sweater are both filled in with yarn. It gets a more solid look to it!

Enjoy!

Tree Frog - June 2011

"Tree Frog"
I am quite happy with this piece. I made it for a friend of mine, and I tried a different style for it. In our conversations, she had mentioned how, if she were to get a tattoo, she would get one of a tree frog with its hands in the air. So I gave it a go in wire form!
I used a different style of making it solid looking, but quite similar to the personality portraits in that way. Lots of colourful wire, lots of fun!

Wire Personality Portrait Sculpture

I'm really excited about this piece... it took a while, but I am quite happy with how it turned out. The basic idea is that it is a reflection of how I see myself. I was thinking of self-portraits, and how I could go about selling my stuff at farmers markets and such... and this is what I came up with!
You can see my basic appearance - dreadlocks, beard, glasses, height... my favourite jacket, a hat a good friend made me, and a crocheted backpack I made.
I am wearing hiking boots because I love hiking, though I also do that barefoot... hiking boots were an easier symbol.
I have my guitar in my left hand, a piece of my life that, if it were gone, my life would be super different!
I am standing on a rock, which shows my love of ocean rocks (and other rocks), and mountains!
And, of course, there's my wire and pliers in my right hand.

Here you see me posing like the sculpture! I went all the way to my favourite beach about 2 hours away from home to get this shot.

And here is all a side by side comparison!

Enjoy :)

Circle Leaf Tree - April 2011

In this piece I experimented with using green metal discs as leaves. Three different sized discs were used. This tree goes a lot faster than the other tree you see on here, which is nice. The trunk and branches are made of brass wire, and the tree is mounted on a piece of wood with an array of ocean rocks at its base. Yay ocean rocks!

Gone Fishing - April 2011

This is another example of a wall wire photograph. This picture displays a person relaxing on a dock poking out into the water with a fishing pole in hand, waiting for the elusive red fish, orange fish, and dark red fish to nibble on the line. The fishing line is cast outside of the frame, and the three fish rest beneath the frame. All of this is set in front of a beautiful British Columbia landscape!

Button Tree - February 2011

(Gifted)
This idea was from some friends of mine who had a whole potful of them as a centerpiece on their dinner table.  Groups of three buttons twisted together and mounted on a small pile of ocean rocks!

Football Kick - December 2010

(Gifted)
"Football Kick"

Another friend of mine played football a lot while he was in high school. Not so much anymore. I made him a figurine to remember all those good times. Base made of stainless steel wire, colours are coloured copper wire from The Ring Lord.
